The Happy Couple

...or not so happy.

guess what? more OC stuff. yep. and you're going to get some explanations, too!

okay, so this is Finvarra, with whom you should be somewhat familiar by now, and her mate, Metalize, who is super evil and awful and stuff. yep.

so quick recap. these guys are bonded when Finvarra is 18 and Metalize is 21. two years later, he is given high command of the Imperial Guard, which is a big deal, especially because he is so young. they have a son, named Avid, when Finvarra is 23 and Metalize is 26. Finvarra is forced to leave two years later when she's 25 and little Avid is only 2.

they are a species called Krells from the land of Krell. (i'm tweaking some things. like Krell used to be spelled with a 'C'.) they have the ability to control the elements. usually, an individual can control just one element, but sometimes they are gifted with multiple elements. the most powerful of these people are conscripted into the Guard at the age of 15. to join the Guard, one must control at least 2 elements. now, officially, there are no Krells that control all four elements. there used to be, and these people used to rule the land, but several hundred years before Finvarra was born, something happened (i'll be vague so as not to ruin the story) and this system collapsed and all the 'quads' disappeared. that is, until Finvarra.

she controls all four elements, fire, water, air, earth. this is something that she had worked very hard to keep secret. Metalize knows, but, for his own reasons, he has kept the secret. but eventually, he has the idea to use her as a weapon, and she is less than thrilled about this. their relationship deteriorates as Metalize spirals into the realms of crazyland. He continues to gain power politically, and becomes almost untouchable. when Finvarra is 25, he attempts to force her to back his coup for power, and she refuses. he then tries to kill her. she escapes, wounded, and flees to one of the other two realms on their world.

around the time that she is fleeing Krell, another quad is born. her name is Talia and she and Finvarra are destined to join together and restore the rightful ruling system to Krell.

my story is how they do this.

now for some detail about Krellan culture. Finvarra and Metalize are bonded, which is their equivalent of marriage, but its much more binding than that. they are bound on a magical level, and bonded pairs can feel each other's emotions, which made it all the more painful for Metalize to try and kill her. He is only able to act in such a way because he kind of goes crazy with power and their bond is weakened. Once done, the bond can never be undone.

there is a high level of equality between males and females, mainly because of their powers. females are equally as gifted as males, which puts them on equal footing. Finvarra herself is a high ranking member of the Guard by the time she is exiled.

i feel like i should talk about their hair, too. in their society, hair is a status symbol, especially in the Guard. this applies to both males and females. When a Krell enters training, their hair is cut short. they are only allowed to grow it back out when they have proven themselves to be worth of full membership in the Guard. (Finvarra proved to be a most competent fighter and was granted full guardsman status within a year). Finvarra cuts her hair short when she is exiled almost as an act of defiance. she keeps it short for the entire time she's gone.

oh, and this picture is probably before Avid was born, and they were still going to social events together. Metalize's coat is made out of dragon skin, which is very common in Krellen clothes because it is completely fire resistant.
